NK Tegelwippen 2025 (English)
The NK Tegelwippen is an annual Dutch championship where municipalities in the Netherlands compete to remove the tiles and replace them with plants, to green their environment. The municipality that removed the most tiles is the winner. This year, the municipality of Uithoorn is participating for the second time. In the first year, 4099 tiles were removed.
This event takes place from March 21st to October 31st . Everyone can participate by removing tiles from their front and/or back garden. This year, the municipality of Uithoorn has challenged the neighboring municipality of Ouder-Amstel.
How great would it be if we, as a municipality, surpass the number of tiles from last year and beat our neighboring municipality? In order to do that, the municipality has organized a couple of eventjes.
Register your tiles on the NK Tegelwippen website
Only registered tiles count for the NK. So, register your tiles at nk-tegelwippen.nl.
Tile Taxi (Tegeltaxi)
What to do with the tiles you take out of your garden? You can bring the tiles to the recycling depot (Industrieweg 29, Uithoorn). Another option is to request the Tile Taxi to pick up your tiles. The Tile Taxi runs on August 27th, September 30th, and October 1th and 29th. Click the button below to register.
Review of the Day Activities of the NK Tegelwippen
During the NK Tegelwippen, the municipality of Uithoorn organized several fun and informative day activities (May 9, May 23, June 13, and June 20). On four Fridays, the municipality had a market stall at the Praxis site (Wiegerbruinlaan 4a, 1422 CB Uithoorn) to inform residents about greening their garden or balcony.
Visitors could directly hand in their tiles on these days and received a bee-friendly plant in return. Those who handed in 0.5 m² or more of tiles also received a rain barrel voucher worth €50, which could be immediately redeemed at Praxis for a discount on a rain barrel.
Green is Beautiful and Good
Green instead of tiles is not only beautiful but also good. During extreme rainfall, the water can seep into the ground, as long as it’s not paved. In extremely hot weather, plants and trees provide cooling. Green also attracts butterflies and bees and gives a cozy appearance! It is good for health, for animals, and for keeping your environment livable.
