Vision
In 2050 we will cook and heat in the Netherlands without natural gas. This was agreed in the Climate Agreement, with municipalities playing a central role. Uithoorn is also taking steps. In 2021 the municipal council adopted the Heat Transition Vision: a roadmap showing how we as a municipality can eventually phase out natural gas step by step.
The vision shows which neighbourhoods, districts and business areas are most suitable to become natural-gas free first. Based on data on buildings and energy use, and on discussions with residents, housing associations and grid operator Liander, an “opportunity map” has been created. This map shows, for each neighbourhood, the most suitable alternatives to natural gas.

In 2027 the Heat Programme will follow, in which more concrete choices per neighbourhood will be made. More information will gradually be published on this website.
